Notre Dame de la Charite Orphanage

For over 20 years, the Holy Spirit Haiti Mission has supported the Notre Dame de la Charite Orphanage which takes in young girls who do not have anyone to properly care for them. The orphanage is run by Eliane who has dedicated her life to caring for these girls. She is one of the most resourceful women who stretches every penny to provide the best care for those in her care. This year we had over 70 children at the orphanage who were sponsored for their clothing, school supplies, food, medical care, and living expenses. We are grateful to those who help to provide for them to grow up in a safe and loving environment. Many of the children have gone on to attend university and one is even studying to be a doctor! We are so proud to see the success that these children are finding as they grow up.

University Students

The Haiti Mission supports higher education for students who show the dedication to their studies and to continuing to learn. Brother Arie began the university program by identifying 10 students that he personally knew had the drive to attend university and to have a career that would better their lives. We have supported these students throughout their studies and we are happy to say that they have all graduated and are working in their communities! We know that by providing higher education opportunities to young people, we are creating a ripple effect throughout the community that will help to improve the lives of not only the graduate but also their families and those around them.

Brother Arie then expanded the program to select the top two students at several schools throughout the diocese. These students are currently going to school for a variety of degrees including teaching, agriculture, and business to name a few. Habibi: A Doctor In Training

Habibi came to NDC in 2003 when she was 3 years old. As she grew older, she became a role model for the younger children and a great help to the orphanage staff who care for around 70 children. We were impressed to hear of her dream to become a doctor to help those in Haiti who suffer from ailments resulting from unclean water and lack of regular medical attention. Habibi had already been shadowing Dr. Yanne who runs the Mobile Medical Clinic which the Holy Spirit Haiti Mission supports. Habibi applied and was accepted to medical school and is beginning her second year of studies!

The cost of medical school as you know is much higher than most university degrees. Habibi’s tuition, room and board, and books come out to $11,000 per year. We are looking for partial sponsors to help with her expenses. If you would like to help Habibi become a doctor and help provide medical care to those in Haiti, please visit the Donate and Get Involved page. Not only will Habibi be able to become a doctor, but her career will also have an exponential effect through those she helps in Haiti.
