Water Purification Systems
The Holy Spirit Haiti Mission works with Living Waters of the World to install water purification systems throughout Haiti. To date, we have installed over 25 systems which provide clean drinking water to many communities throughout Haiti. The government does not provide clean drinking water and most live in mountainous areas where clean water for purchase is unavailable. The Haiti Mission works to set up water committees at the sponsor location (a church, school, etc.) to ensure that there are responsible parties to help maintain the system and distribute the water.
The latest water purification system that we have installed was in Jacmel. This is one of our most successful water systems to date because the priest who runs the system has capitalized on the business aspect of the system. While providing clean water to the community, the water purification system charges a reasonable price for the water from the community. This profit is saved to be used for system maintenance and the leftover profit can be used to improve the church or school that hosts the system. It really benefits the whole community!
We are currently in the process of installing the next water purification system in Cap Rouge which is a remote mountainous area with no clean water. Brother Arie is working to identify a suitable location to house the water purification system and create a water committee which will be responsible for the operation and upkeep of the system. We have an in-country water team which assists with the installations and checks up on all the systems to ensure they are in good order and are being utilized.
