The girls are a very important part of the mission. If you visit the orphanage just once, you’re sold. There’s no going back. For a long time, HSHM has sponsored these girls in school and provided for their material needs. The best return on that investment are the girls, themselves.

Lukencia, 10, can hoola hoop using every part of her body, including her head. She has sparkling eyes and desires tons of attention.

Nephtalie, 15, is one of the older girls; she is very dependable and very intelligent. She aspires to come to the U.S., giggles a lot, and writes silly songs.

Nerline, 13, is very sensitive―the most sensitive of the group―but has no problem using her hard-core mischievous
grin to get her way and braids hair so tight it cuts off your circulation.

Valencia, 18, has unbelievable talent in sewing, crocheting, and cross stitching, and speaks the most English; she has a free spirit and dreams of travelling the world.

Gyvenson, the boy, can hit a baseball vertically or horizontally, has a bad habit of hanging off of you whenever you stand still long enough, and can kick your butt at Kreyol Hangman.

Attalia, 7, is extremely small for her age, but she runs faster than the older girls. She gets great grades in school and, for some reason, HATES getting her hair done.

Abibi, 15, wants to be a doctor. She enjoys dancing and knitting skirts, and making really amazing woven bracelets.

Michou, 4, is the baby of the family. She has a way of getting food out of people, begging for mangoes, tootsie rolls, and juice. This precocious youngster needs a lot of watching, especially because she won’t keep her shoes on.

Guerline, the eldest, is Eliane’s second-in-command. She is a tough cookie and lays down the law. She is paving the way as the first girl at University, and is almost finished with her degree in Administration. She loves polo shirts.

Elisia, 18, is a graceful, joyful dancer, and one of the most intelligent women I know, and she highly values education and learning. She works extremely diligently in school and has a natural aptitude for foreign languages. I know in my heart and soul that Haitians like Elisia will change the world.
